The God Of Everyday Things

Casting all your care upon Him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)

There are times, and I’m sure you can relate, when we find ourselves putting the problems in our lives into different compartments so that they appear more manageable to us. The big problems we’ll give to God, we tell ourselves, and the smaller ones, well we can just take care of those ourselves. (Ha! Like we can help God.)

I know we don’t do it intentionally, and that it happens more or less on a subconscious level; but it’s as if we figure we’ll be burdening the Lord if we give Him All of our problems at once; especially the seemingly insignificant ones that we deem too minor to trouble Him with. Never mind it clearly says in His Word that this is exactly what He wants us to do. “Casting all your care upon Him; for he careth for you.” 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV) The verse does not go into specifics with these cares, nor does it give a breakdown of ones we should give to the Lord, and ones we should keep for ourselves, it just says to cast them all on Him.

I often think about Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden after they’d sinned. The book of Genesis says that the Lord was walking in the garden in the cool of the evening actually looking for them. “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.” Genesis 3:8 NIV. Even though it doesn’t say it, I always imagine that it was commonplace for Adam and Eve to meet with the Lord every day. That He enjoyed their company and they enjoyed His; and He genuinely wanted to converse with them because He created them and was interested in everything about them.

The Lord cares about the ordinary, everyday things in our lives just as much as he does the big things. Those seemingly insignificant details that matter to no one else but us, He wants us to bring those to Him as well. He cares about our children getting bullied at school as much as He cares about a major financial crisis we’re facing. He cares about us not having enough gas to get to work for the week as much as He does a troubling medical emergency that keeps us up at night. It matters to Him, all of it. They might seem trivial to us and to others, but they’re not trivial to Him.

Think about how we respond to our own children as earthly parents; we love engaging with them at any age. At every stage of their lives, from kindergarten to college, and even when they get married, we never stop caring about what happens to them. We are more than willing to listen whenever they have a problem, and to help them out in any way that we can.

“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” Matthew 7:11 (NLT) Yes, if we as imperfect people with imperfect hearts feel this way about our children, how much more willing and eager is God The Father to respond to us when we bring our daily cares before Him? So today, do not hesitate to go before Him with your burdens both great and small. He’s a good, good Father and is interested in everything concerning you.
