” Always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 5:20 NIV
While driving to work a few weeks ago, I was thanking the Lord in my heart for all the little things He does that I sometimes take for granted. Like being alive and breathing; that in itself is something I should thank Him for every, single day. And then I realized that I could take it a step further and thank Him, not just for breathing, but for breathing on my own, breathing without the help of a ventilator, breathing without any pain or discomfort in my chest or lungs.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to become like kids who are so used to having everything readily provided for them, both the basics and the extras, that they simply take it as a given and never show any appreciation for it. As parents, we know how much a grateful child can warm our hearts, and I know it means a lot to the Lord as well to hear us say, “Father, we thank You.”
Why wait for something huge or miraculous to happen to give the Lord thanks? Let us thank Him every day for the little things in our lives; the things that have become so second nature to us, they’re almost mundane.
Even something as simple as having all of our senses in tact should fill our hearts with gratitude. I recently enjoyed a meal that was so good, I actually paused in the midst of it to say a silent thank you. Why? Because there are others who are unable to do so. It might seem like no big deal to us, but not everyone is that fortunate. Being able to eat on our own and not have our food fed to us through a tube or some other means is a mighty blessing; one of the many little ones we sometimes overlook because we’re so used to having it.
So stop for a moment and think, I promise you won’t have to rack your brain; look around and you’ll quickly see those little blessings everywhere, and when you do, lift up grateful hearts to the Father and thank Him for all that He has done.
Great is Thy faithfulness, Great is Thy faithfulness,
Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed Thy hand hath provided, Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.
